THE FABLE

Seven Minutes of Wizardry

Chapter 98 ·

The Chronicler gave himself three hours to solve the Rune Mysteries. He solved them in seven minutes. The mysteries were not, on inspection, very mysterious. They were mostly a parcel.

The Duke of Lumbridge handed him a strange talisman. Sedridor, under the Wizards' Tower, looked at it and handed back a research package for Aubury in Varrock. Aubury handed back notes. The Chronicler carried the notes back to the tower. At no point did anyone hand him a spell. He wore rune platebody and carried a dragon longsword through all of it, and still he was the postman. The wizards have a way of making a man feel like the postman.

During those seven minutes the squire gave up on Demon Slayer for six hours, after twelve tries, because he had no room in his pack for the bones. The Chronicler crossed half the kingdom twice in less time than it took his squire to fail to find space for some bones. This is noted without comment. It is noted twice.

The way to the Rune Essence is open now, to anyone with a pickaxe and a purpose. The wizards keep the magic. The Chronicler keeps a title, Courier of the Wizards, and he will accept it as it stands.
