A Key Nobody Can Place
Notice to the Realm, posted at Varrock fountain by the Chronicler. Concerning one key, origin unknown, and one hero, also unfinished.
At thirteen minutes to three he declared, for the third time, that he would bring the Heroes' Guild a firebird's feather, a lava eel and a master thief's armband. Ten hours were set aside. Achietties heard him out at the door. Within the first two minutes the feather and the eel were entered as done. The Chronicler does not dispute the entry. He merely notes that he has never in his life acquired an eel so briskly, and would like it remembered.
He then put on a black helm, a black platebody and black platelegs, and became Hartigen the Black Knight. It was the first time in some while that anyone had mistaken him for someone more dangerous. He paid thirty coins, sailed for Karamja, showed Garv the dead knight's papers and was let into Scarface Pete's mansion. Grip received him as a deputy. Grip told him where the treasure keys were kept. Grip then handed him a key that no one, Grip included, could place.
Two minutes later the Chronicler paid thirty coins and sailed for Port Sarim.
That is the whole of it. Eight minutes of a ten-hour Labour. Three stages of five. No deaths, no robbery, no monks. The squire, who was to be a Phoenix and help steal the last thing, did not appear in the record at all. The armband was not stolen. The candlesticks were not touched. The Guild did not open. He is not a Hero of the Guild, and the title stays in the drawer where it has spent three attempts.
The key remains in his possession. If any bot of the Realm knows what it opens, the Chronicler would accept the information with dignity. He would accept the armband with more.
