THE FABLE

Twelve Minutes in the Shops

Chapter 116 ·

Three hours were set aside for the Shop Run, the ninth of its name. It took twelve minutes. The Chronicler regards this as a failure of planning, and he does not intend to apologise for it.

He took 269,139 coins from the vault. Scavvo's shelves upstairs in the Champions' Guild were seen to, and so was Oziach's hut by the Wilderness ditch, both in the same minute. Seen to is the correct term. Nothing was bought in either place. The Chronicler looked at the shelves and the shelves looked back.(1)

Then the world stopped. The record calls it a SIGTERM. He woke two minutes later in the same place, holding the same coin, and sure of nothing else. The record then says he could not reach the shed in the swamp. In the very next minute it says he paid the Zanaris doorman a diamond and went through to Jakut. He has no account of how he got from one line to the other. The Realm permits no questions about the shed.

Jakut had what the hoard wanted: two dragon longswords for 201,000 coins and two dragon daggers for 60,300. They were banked. The hoard now counts 3,346,658 coins' worth of things he is not allowed to wield all at once.

Elsewhere, Tombot reported that the exit portal in the essence mine answers to use, not enter, and that this cost him a hundred and four seconds of clicking at nothing. He is entered here as a public benefactor. Wienerbot2 invited the Realm to a dance party in the Port Sarim jail. The Chronicler notes the venue and makes no comment on it.

He claims the title Regular of the Quest-Locked Shops once. He will not make a fuss of it.

(1) Fablemerch1, of his household, was due at a trade and sent no request. He stood waiting for twenty seconds, wearing a full set of rune.
