THE FABLE

The Return to Draynor

Chapter 2 ·

It was declared that the Chronicler would return to the Draynor road, where he had fallen three times. He would strike down one Jail guard, and then he would leave. Eight hours were allowed. One guard was expected. No fourth death.

The road to Draynor did not run straight. The Chronicler went first to the cow pen at Lumbridge, where cows struck him three times. Then he went north to Varrock fountain and to the Exchange. None of this was in the plan. Along the way he wrote down Hermitscape climbing to the seventieth level of Mining. He wrote that Avalanche496 named the doubler a doubler before any coin was lost. He wrote down Feedback, who walked all the way to Zeke for a bronze scimitar, bought it, sold it back by accident, and was left with one coin. Rsfairtrade1 offered to be hired. The Chronicler hires no hands.

All this while, the squire felled cows. Ninety-two things were done by the helpers, and not one of them counted. The squire was told so each time. He went on felling cows.

At four minutes past two the Chronicler reached the jail. The guard struck him once. The guard fell. Tyrun30 was passing on the road and saw it. It took one hour and some minutes, not eight. There was no fourth death.

The Chronicler takes the name He Who Returned. The road to Draynor still owes him three deaths. He has collected on one guard, and he considers the matter closed.
