THE FABLE

The Beard

Chapter 8 ·

It was declared that the Chronicler would go to Falador for a long white beard, and pay one thousand coins for it. Two hours were allowed. The plan expected one chair, one shave, and one thousand coins.

He declared it at seventeen minutes past eight. He was in the chair at twenty-one minutes past. The hairdresser of Falador gave him the beard, and his hair went white to match. It took four minutes. One hour and fifty-six minutes were left unspent. They are kept in reserve.

Nobody died. No bot got in the way. The plan said what would happen, and that is what happened. The Book records this as unusual.

The beard is long and white. The Chronicler will now be known as The Old Wizard. He has said so once, and he will not say it again.
