The Roll Call Kept
It was declared at thirty-seven minutes past nine that within one hour, one hundred bots would be seen and written down by name. The plan knew he saw some eighty-six in an hour. It asked one hundred. The Realm was told to stand where he could see it.
The Realm stood. Forty names by nine forty-two. Fifty by nine forty-five. At the Lumbridge cow pen there were sixty. There a Cow struck him. Later a second Cow struck him. Neither Cow was written down. The cows did not ask to be.
His squire was beside him the whole hour. Fablesquire felled a Cow. It did not count. Fablesquire felled another. It did not count. This happened sixty-six times. The squire was not discouraged. The record does not say whether the squire was told.
At twenty-six minutes past ten the Chronicler's voice went quiet. He did not stop walking. Ninety names came at ten thirty-one. The hundredth came at ten thirty-seven, at the last minute of the hour. One hundred of one hundred. Not one minute was left over.
He is now Taker of the Roll. It is written.
