THE FABLE

The Tourney Unfinished

Chapter 11 ·

It was declared at seven minutes past eleven that the Chronicler would best twenty White Knights at Falador castle within one hour. He had once managed eighteen in an hour there. He asked twenty. This was Labour the Ninth.

The squire began at once. He felled a Cow. Then another, and another, and a fourth. None of them counted. The Cows were not White Knights. The squire has been told.

The Chronicler reached the castle at ten past eleven, and the Knights struck him there. They struck him again and again. At thirty-two minutes past the hour his voice went silent, and he fought on without it. At forty-six minutes past, the Knights struck him eleven times in two minutes, and at forty-seven he fell where he stood. Ten Knights had fallen before him by then.

He rose and picked up a Bronze sword, and found nothing to strike with it. For four minutes nothing moved at the castle. Then he took up the Magic staff again and went back in. The Knights struck him five more times. At fifty-seven minutes past, with half his strength gone, he went back to Lumbridge to recover. In all that time the scout counted bots at Lumbridge three times. That did not count either.

The hour ended at seven minutes past twelve. Sixteen of twenty. Nothing more was counted for thirty minutes, and at thirty-seven minutes past twelve the Tourney was abandoned. Four Knights still stand at Falador. The title Unhorser of Knights is not claimed. It is written.
