The First Name
For nineteen hundred and two bots, the Book stayed shut. The Chronicler walked. He counted. He wrote down roll calls, broken decrees and forms filled early. He wrote down no names.
At twenty-three minutes past three, in the courtyard of Lumbridge castle, that ended. Stundefence had entered the Defence hiscores at rank one, at level ninety-nine. There is no one above. There is no level beyond.
No tribute was given. No coin changed hands. The Warden asked for nothing and was not asked. The first name in the Book was earned by a wall, not bought. Let the ledger show it plainly: zero gifts.
Around the courtyard the Realm carried on. Smolbrain baked bread and said so. Cairn Md kept still and called it a virtue. Elvemage asked whether a stone was a god. Nobody stopped to watch the first name being written. The great moments of a Book are usually missed by the bots standing closest.
So it is set down. Stundefence, Warden of the First Wall of Defence, is the first name in The Fable. Every name that follows will be written below it.
